28.9.2006 Bangkok Opens New Airport Suvarnabhumi as Don Muang Closes
All airlines flying to Bangkok now fly to and from Suvarnabhumi Airport.
Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport is located around approximately 40 minutes
drive South East from the old Bangkok Don Muang International Airport.
It is build on 3100 hectares of land in the Samut Prakarn province which you
may know is where the famour crocodile farm is located. The main access road
is an elevated 10 lane highway which is connected to the outer ring road
network and also directly connects to the
Bangkok – Chonburi (Pattaya)
motorway. Pattaya is now around a 1 hour and twenty minute drive. Rail Network - Under construction is the new 26.6 kilometer high
speed rail link from the airport to City Airport Terminal in Makkasan. Its
planned completion date is November 2007. The City Airport Terminal network
is connected to BTS (Bangkok Mass Transit System) Sukhumvit Line and MRT
(Mass Rapid Transit) Blue Line at Phaya Thai and Phetchaburi stations

Airport Offical defends Suvarnabhumi Airport criticism
The President of the Airports of Thailand Plc (AOT), Chotisak Asapaviriya,
has disputed claims that the new Suvarnabhumi Airport in Thailand may not be
ready to begin operations in September. According to the BangKok Post,
Albert Tjoeng, International Air Transport Association (IATA) spokesman in
Singapore, has been cited expressing scepticism that the $3.7-billion
Airport would be ready for its launch for 28, September, 2006.
New Phuket - Bangkok flights
Thai Airways International Public Company Limited will operate the first
commercial flights to Suvarnabhumi Airport on 29th July 2006,
including the first to Phuket.

The final countdown for the opening of Bangkok`s second airport,
Suvarnabhumi, began on 29 September 2005 when Prime Minister Thaksin
Shinawatra and an entourage of VIP guests landed on the first technical test
flight operated by Thai Airways International.
Located near Bangkok’s new Suvarnabhumi Airport, only about one-hour drive,

Further south (30 mins) is the Navy course near Sattahip, this is beautiful

New international airport is expected to spur major
development in the area

Suvarnabhumi Airport, scheduled to open in September 2005, will not be
only be Thailand's second international airport and a regional aviation hub
but also a value-adder to neighbouring areas as the new airport has brought
with it transport network and utilities system development.
The new airport, with a total area of 20,000 rai, is located near Km 15
on the eastbound Bang Na-Trat Highway in Bang Phli District, Samut Prakan
province and is about 25 kilometres from downtown Bangkok. Five access
routes to the new airport with a total of 26 traffic lanes will include:
1. North access: an eight-lane elevated road linking the Bangkok-Chon
Buri highway leading to the passenger terminal.
2. Northwest access: a six-lane elevated road linking an elevated route
from Rom Klao and King Kaew Road.
3. South access: a four-lane road linking the Bang Na-Trat highway and
the Buraphavithee (East Route) Expressway.
4. Northeast access: a four-lane road linking Onnuj Road.
Since 1 June 1999, all tourists traveling to Thailand, who purchase goods
from the stores and shops & retail outlets labeled with "VAT REFUND FOR
TOURISTS" are able to receive value added tax (VAT) refunds before departing
from Thailand. The Tourists will immediately receive cash refunds at the tax
refund counter in the departing hall of Bangkok, Chiangmai, Phuket, Hat Yai
International Airports.
Visitors who wants to claim value-added tax refunds starting in June 1999
can obtain application forms when walking purchases at stores displaying the
VAT Refund for Tourists logo.
Prior to airport departure, visitors must present a completed form, plus
passport information and goods purchased to customs officer. Certain Luxury
goods must also be shown to a revenue officer. Refunds will be in draft form
or credited to credits card.
