Be it service, innovation or that elusive ‘flying’ experience, Singapore Airlines has always been a leader in its own right.

Since its emancipation from Malaysian Airways Limited in 1972, Singapore Airlines has moved from strength to strength to become an innovator for the airline industry. In fact, it was the first airline to offer free headsets, a choice of meals and free drinks in Economy class, as well as introduce a global sky telephone service back in the 1990’s.

Singapore’s passion for innovation has not cooled over the years. It recently completed a four-year upgrade of its cabin offerings, which set out to redefine the meaning of cabin service and luxury. Singapore not only introduced new seats in First, Business and Economy class, but also launched an enhanced KrisWorld inflight entertainment system and upgraded its service delivery.

Economy class passengers flying on Singapore are treated to adjustable seats and hours of inflight entertainment on their personal KrisWorld system. Business class passengers on the other hand, enjoy large personal screens and lie-flat seats with an 8 degree recline. Meanwhile, First class passengers experience the ultimate in luxury with their very own private Skysuite, complete with designer fittings and lavish toiletries.

Best yet, you can forget the jokes about airline food when travelling with Singapore Airlines. The onboard menu features gourmet cuisines that have been exclusively prepared and designed by a panel of internationally renowned chefs. A collection of the world’s finest wines have also been included onboard, which were hand picked by three of the world’s leading wine connoisseurs.

Frequent flyers travelling with Singapore can also connect seamlessly to the Star Alliance’s extensive network of partner airlines, as well as benefit from its integrated frequent flyer program.

Singapore Airline currently services over 90 destinations in close to 40 countries on its young fleet of aircrafts.

Singapore Airlines launch self service check-in

Checking-in at Singapore Airlines just got more convenient with the introduction of auto check-in machines at the airport and two-dimensional (2D) barcoded boarding passes.

The new services along with the entire suite of online services available at singaporeair.com.au offer customers more check-in options while reducing the time spent at the airport.

Auto Check-in Machines

Singapore Airlines customers can bypass the queues and check themselves in at any of the 14 auto check-in counters available at Singapore Changi Airport’s Terminal Two.

Using their e-ticket number, the Airline’s KrisFlyer card or the credit card used to purchase the tickets, customers can go to any of the machines to check-in, select their choice seats and collect their boarding passes.

Following this, customers need only proceed to select counters in the same area to have their travel documents verified and to drop off their bags.

Easy to follow instructions will lead customers through each step of the check-in process. Singapore Airlines service staff will also be on hand to assist customers.

The check-in machines are expected to reduce waiting time at the airport. Passengers are able to check-in using the machine up to 48 hours prior to the flight departure time for all Singapore Airlines flights departing from Singapore, with the exception of flights to the United States which have special check-in requirements.

The auto check-in machines feature displays in eight languages: English, Mandarin, Malay, Tamil, Hindi, Japanese, Korean and German. They are located at Rows five (Business Class) and nine (Economy Class) at Terminal Two.

2D Barcoded Boarding Pass

Using 2D barcode technology, Singapore Airlines customers can also complete the entire check-in process online in the comfort of their home or office. All customers have to do is to go to singaporeair.com.au to check-in for their flights, select their preferred seats and print out the boarding passes.

Designed to offer customers greater convenience, this service is available from 48 to two hours prior to the flight departure time for all Singapore Airlines flights departing from Singapore, with the exception of flights to the United States, which have special requirements. Other departure cities will be progressively added.

On the day of the flight, customers need only present their self-printed boarding pass, together with their travel documents, at specially designated airport counters for verification and to drop off their bags.

These new features are part of the continuing effort by Singapore Airlines to provide customers with the best pre-flight experience. At Singapore Airlines, customers can also subscribe to flight alerts via email or SMS (mobile text messaging), informing them of check-in availability, flight departure and arrival times and to submit meal requests.
