United Airlines to launch nonstop
service from Rome Fiumicino to Washington-Dulles
United Airlines has
announced that it will offer new daily passenger and cargo services between
Rome and Washington DC, pending Italian Government approval. United will
begin service from Rome Fiumicino Airport on 2 April 2007 and service from
Washington-Dulles on 1 April 2007 as part of its international expansion at
its Washington-Dulles hub. Flights are open for sale.
The service to Rome strengthens Washington-Dulles as United's
international gateway on the East Coast. It also underpins United’s
commitment to the European market, with other flights into Washington-Dulles
from London, Paris, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Brussels, Zurich and Munich. Other
recently announced capital-to-capital services to and from Washington-Dulles
include United’s first-ever service to the Middle East through Kuwait City
and its first-ever service from Washington, DC, to Japan via Tokyo Narita -
both to begin October 2006. United has also recently applied to offer the
first-ever nonstop service between Washington DC and Beijing.
“The strong commercial and tourism links between Italy and the United
States are longstanding. We are pleased to launch a route that will serve
business, leisure and cargo customers, further demonstrating our commitment
to expanding our global and European network,” said Marcel Fuchs, United
