Lufthansa
Lufthansa, created in Germany in 1926, is one of the world's largest
airlines and an aviation group with a network of more than 400 subsidiaries
around the globe, operating in six business areas: passenger business,
logistics, maintenance, repair and overhaul, catering, leisure travel and
international technology services. Lufthansa owes its origins to "Deutsche
Luft Hansa Aktiengesellschaft" (renamed "Lufthansa" in 1933), which was
formed from a merger between "Deutsche Aero Lloyd" (DAL) and "Junkers
Luftverkehr" on January 6, 1926. Its crane logo, still in use today, was
designed by "Deutsche Luft-Reederei" in 1919, for DAL, using the
blue-and-yellow house colors from Junkers. It commenced scheduled flights on
April 6, 1926, with a fleet of 162 aircraft, of 18 different types. Today
Lufthansa, Air Canada, SAS, Thai Airways und United Airlines create the
"Star Alliance," the world's first multilateral airline grouping, later to
be joined by other carriers.

Lufthansa to launch Flights to Busan in
South Korea
With the beginning of the summer timetable 2007, Lufthansa
will offer a new direct connection from Munich to Busan, South Korea’s most
important port. Starting 27 March 2007 an Airbus A340-300 will then link
three times a week Munich with Seoul, South Korea’s capital and biggest
city, and on an ongoing flight with Busan.
With about 3.7 million inhabitants, Busan is South Korea’s second-largest
city and an important trade centre. The busy natural port in the Southeast
of the country ranks fifth among the world’s maritime container transhipment
centres. In Ulsan, only about 70 kilometres away, Hyundai, an
internationally-operating automobile manufacturer, has its most important
production site. Shipbuilding and the software industry are also strongly
represented in the region as the world biggest shipyard is located in this
area. In 2002, Busan was the venue of the Asian Games, as well as the FIFA
World Cup and is bidding to host the Olympic Games in 2020. Besides many
conferences and conventions, the city annually organizes the Busan
International Film Festival and an automobile trade show.
