| South African Airways expands its
network over four continents South African Airways is lengthening its
worldwide reach with the expansion of their networks in Europe, North
America, South America and Africa. They will be adding exciting new
destinations to each of these continents, taking advantage of their Star
Alliance partners ‘hubs’ throughout the world.
“South Africa Airways will launch a third destination into North America
next year,” said Australia and New Zealand regional manager Thevan Krishna.
“After terminating service to Atlanta in June 2006, the airline will begin
four flights per week between Johannesburg and Chicago from May 8, 2007.
Chicago is the largest hub of our Star Alliance partner United Airlines and
will offer seamless connections to 91 destinations in North America on our
Star partners.”
The South African carrier will be also launching flights to Buenos Aires
in July 2007 with three flights per week. “These flights will offer good
connections to 7 countries in South America, including Chile, Uruguay and
Peru and will complement our current operations to Sao Paulo, as part of
South African Airways’ dual gateway into South America,” continued Krishna.
“South African Airways customers may soon be able to fly to a third South
American destination, Rio de Janeiro, which the airline is currently looking
at entering.”
The expansion continues in Europe with the launch of Munich as its fifth
destination. Using Star Alliance partner Lufthansa’s Munich hub, it will be
offering seamless connections to 63 destinations in Europe including 17 in
Italy. This is going to allow South African Airways to tap into new business
and tourist markets.
South African Airways will also be adding Libreville, Gabon to its
African repertoire in April 2007. With three flights per week, Gabon will be
a great addition to the 20-plus destinations that South Africa Airways has
in their own continent.
“This is the most comprehensive overhaul of our network operations since
we began flying more than 70 years ago and I am confident that with all the
improvements we will continue our role as Africa’s leading airline.” As
Krishna finished: “In Africa, South African Airways continues to ‘Bring the
World to Africa and Take Africa to the World.’” |
