| Navigating the new Suvarnabhumi
Airport - back to top Sitting on 3100 acres of land, when opened the long-awaited
Bangkok Airport is to be the largest airport in Thailand. Which means it’ll
probably be a headache for travellers to navigate, at least at first.
The Suvarnabhumi (pronounced su-wan-na-poom) International airport will
be able to hold a capacity of 45 million passengers and three million tonnes
of cargo per year. Costing 113, 774.799 million Baht and coming in at four-storeys
high, the new airport will make the most of the available space.
Getting Around
There are four levels at the new Bangkok Airport and each has its own
purpose. Level one is for the bus terminals, level two is dedicated to
arrivals, a meet and greet centre is available on three and departures leave
from level four
Level 1 Bus Lobby- This is where the Airport shuttle picks up and
drops off passengers. Other facilities include food outlets, lifts and
escalator access and bathrooms.
Level 2 Arrivals - The arrivals gates are located here. Services
for immigration, customs and baggage pickup for inbound passengers are all
on this floor. There is a convenient help desk just outside the luggage
pick-up area for further information. Other facilities include a concierge
desk, food outlets, shopping outlets, lift and escalator access and
bathrooms.
Level 3 Meeting Centre - Mainly a meet and greet area, this
section of the airport is taken up predominately by lounges, a sleep area, a
food outlet and a shopping outlet. Lift and escalator access is available.
Level 4 Departures - This is where outbound passengers will
check-in and depart the Airport. There is a convenient information booth
located near the check-in gates for any last-minute questions. The majority
of the duty-free shopping is located on this level, much of which is
available after going through immigration. Other facilities include a sleep
area, VAT refund desk, food outlets, lift and escalator access and
bathrooms. back to top |
